Frequently asked questions

How much is a Wedding Cake?

This is the question that we are asked more times than all other questions put together.  Unfortunately it's also the most difficult to answer!  The price will depend upon the design, style, size, type and flavour of your cake.  We are more than happy to discuss your requirements - please contact Hazel Cookes for a one to one consultation. Email: hazelcookes@outlook.com

I have a specific cake budget in mind.  Can you work to my budget?

Many of our clients have ideas for designs they like, however they are unable to afford them due to the intricate nature of the works involved within the designs they have chosen. No two cakes are ever identical, but Hazel Cookes can work with you to personalise your cake creating a similar feel and style unique for you and within your budget.

What size cake do I need?

This is usually defined by how many guests you have and if you want to send any additional cake to family and friends who could not attend the wedding.

  • A guest portion size will vary depending upon the choice of cake and can also be influenced by different traditions and religions.

  • Standard portion size:

Fruit cake 2.5cm square (1 inch)

        Sponge cake 5cm x 2.5cm (2inch x 1inch)

(If the cake is to be cut for a dessert then these sizes may be increased)

When extra cake portions are required it is acceptable practice to have additional plain iced cutting cakes placed in the kitchen to be served as required

Can you accommodate food intolerances?

Some of our products do include nuts (including peanuts), all of our products are made in a kitchen that contains nuts (peanuts) so there maybe trace elements of nuts in all of our products.

If you have a particular concern regarding an ingredient Hazel Cookes can discuss this with you within your consultation.  Hazel Cookes can provide gluten free, vegan and diary free options if required.

When cutting/serving the cake is there anything to be aware of?

Yes, cakes often contain non-edible items.  Please ensure you remove all pillars dowels, sugar flowers, posy picks, ribbons candles and any other non-edible items before consuming the cake.  Be aware that sugar flowers may contain wires and non-edible stamens..
